Opinions (continued)

As promised...my thoughts on Earthlink.

So...I finally bit the bullet and spent over 1000 dollars on a new computer. I spent a lot of time researching what I needed and wanted so, needless to say, I'm very protective with out of control anti-virus software, firewall, etc. Right, so, the purchase came with 6 months free AOL or Earthlink. Well, both sets of software come on the computer so, since I already had AOL and hated it, I figured I'd test-drive Earthlink and, if I liked it, cancel my AOL and switch providers.

Things were going great until stupid Earthlink kept tantalizing me with their Earthlink Accelerator. I finally gave in and installed it. Mistake!!! It completely screwed up my Internet Explorer. I was no longer able to get to any web pages. None at all! I went through every trouble shooting guide I could find, chatted with Earthlink's tech people, AND called them. In the end, the Earthlink Tech person I last talked to told me there was nothing he could do...that I'd have to bring my computer to a repair shop and have the network communications software re-installed. Um...how did it get messed up in the first place??? Stupid Earthlink Accelerator.

Well, I forgot all about everything and just started using AOL instead only to discover that, now that my 6 free months are up, Earthlink has started charging my credit card 21.95!!! I forgot I'd even given them my credit card number. I tried to call their billing people but the wait time was over 20 minutes so I gave up. I'll try again at some random time of day in the hopes it'll be less busy but, who knows. So, of course, if I can't get it to work I'll cancel the service and just stick with AOL but I finally got off my ass and contacted Dell about the problem and they provided some trouble-shooting tips that I hadn't tried yet. Hopefully that will work (because when all is said and done, I really do not like AOL and would rather use a provider like earthlink, netzero, juno, etc)

I hate technology.

Opinions

Since I've got nothing else to write about, I'm going to share my opinions on a few things I think people should know...

1 - The Audiovox CDMA8600 phone bites the big one. I switched to Verizon Wireless so I could be "in" only because most of my friends had it too. In doing so, I had to let go of the Nokia I loved so dearly that I had with my AT&T Wireless plan (no problems with AT&T just not great reception in some areas where Verizon had awesome reception - e.g. most of the I-95 corridor south of NoVa) I LOVED my Nokia. I loved ALL the Nokia phones I had while I was an AT&T customer. I'm actually...sad that I don't have it anymore. And I curse Audiovox and Verizon every day that I have that phone because it blows. The keys aren't sensitive at all making text-messaging damn near impossible and extremely frustrating. My boyfriend has the same phone and he's had to have his replaced twice within the first year of having it. First it was because anyone he called couldn't hear him even though he could hear them. Then it was because he developed a dark black fuzzy spot in the middle of the screen that obscured everything. Now, I'M starting to have problems. I'll open my phone and the screen will, literally, split in half and the right half of the screen is now on the left and the left half is now on the right. Sometimes I'll open it up and push the volume button to adjust my ring volume and the screen goes all crazy. The display shifts and everything's all stretched and on an angle. It's ridiculous. I'd bring it in but I know from experience that if it's not showing the problem at the moment you bring it in, they'll tell you they don't know what's wrong with it and tell you to come back if it happens again...don't even get my started on their customer service. What a nightmare. And the closest store until a month ago was in Fairfax...a good half hour away.

Nokia kicks ass. I highly recommend their phones to anyone. Pretty much all of Verizon's phones suck.

Next up...why Earthlink blows.

FYI - I read a really good book the other day entitled "Men Who Fake Foreplay and Other Lies that are True." So good. It's actually valuable insight from the male perspective and it makes you stop and think "wow...so all mean really aren't that bad." Refreshing.

What's with all this blogging anyway?

This seems like such a simple thing to do...why can't I figure it out? The only person with the address of my blog is my sister. And there is no way on earth she would want to read my boring daily life summaries everyday. I have tons of free time while my students are working, that's when I could be typing away! But I already spend that time checking all my e-mail accounts (I'm up to 8 but I only check 5 on a daily basis). Forget it. I hate journal writing anyway. I've started a million journals on paper but never can keep up with them. It just gets boring...even for me and it's my life I'm writing about!

Crissie...have you sent a birthday card to April yet? Have you sent her a gift?! What am I going to get her?
